Things I saw while walking* from the LRT’s legarda station to the office this morning

  1. Little pools of rainwater on the road when I get out of the station.
  2. A female student in white uniform just finished her stick of Marlboro lights and threw the butt on the street.
  3. A slab of pork being grilled and dripping with fat.
  4. Four lampposts with the lights still on.
  5. Five college boys removing their earrings as they approach their school's entrance.
  6. Trees at Mendiola sidewalks in full green leafy bloom, old yellow leaves underneath.
  7. Small chirping birds of similar brownish colors: two birds jumping together on the wet pavement, one bird flying, six birds jumping on the pavement and flying separately, lone bird jumping on a shrub.
  8. Four butches, seen in installment.
  9. While entering Malacanang’s Mendiola gate, a man and a woman were eating balut in front of the balut vendor.
  10. An old white taxi parked amidst shiny private cars.
  11. Nine pedicabs with ten men at a parking lot corner.
  12. Seven street sweepers: two were eating noodles, five sweeping close together, one picking leaves across the street.
  13. Eight no-parking signs.
  14. Five pedestrian-crossing signs.
  15. One guard grinning and another blocking a driveway.
  16. One hagad (mobile police).

*Normally, I make two short jeepney rides to get to the office.
